With WabiSabi stepping away from artist management, and shifting to strictly production, I understand the general "oh dear what now" of it all, but I'm also so happy that many of their artists are staying together.
GMM and Wabi Sabi are corporate besties -- they promote each other's shows on social media, and in A Boss and A Babe, the cafe was "Wab Gaming" and the signs were in Wabi Sabi font:
I remember constantly thinking "Why is Wabi Sabi in this GMM show -- AND THEN! My boy Yacht showed up as a barista!
And he looked so good!
I am a little concerned about so much talent being under the same company, but I'm hopeful that Wabi Sabi will continue to work with GMM on production, and push them to be a little more experimental and a little more queer and to occasionally tell different stories. GMM has gotten a little closer to all these things recently, and I think a nudge from WS could go a long way.
I imagine that WS was very involved in making sure their artists that are pair-and-bestie branded got to move together, and that their existing projects continued, which I think is uncommonly respectful and considerate for the entertainment industry (especially with the recent horror stories coming out of other companies in the drama-sphere).
So, while I'm a little wary of the growing monopoly on talent, I am focusing on some of my faves landing at a company where they'll be welcomed, and where they'll get to continue to act and be promoted enthusiastically.
And that maybe GMM will up their game with the help of a production partner they already trust, and actors with enough experience to advocate for themselves.
ETA: I was worried about Cooheart, but I think he is independent now?
At the very least, he's happy for his friends, and rooting for Wabi Sabi to continue to be successful:

this MUST be said (cause i so very much called it as soon as the mess of an event ended)
Studio Wabi Sabi 2024 lineup looks more interesting than GMMtv 2024 part 1 line up
AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON IDOL FACTORY AKSBXKSBSK
#i know gmm is a big production company and all but the other studios are doing great at catching up#gmm keeps playing it safe with the same ol high school plots#with their budget and resources and range of actors AND amount of newcomers they should branch out#but nope. they keep it safe.

Not me , another timeless piece of art. What a time it was to be alive then. At one point i think Kinnporsche and Not me overlapped ? Or was it Bad buddy and Not me??
Oh my God. That was the peak . I don't think we've achieved anything like that afterwards.
The Fallen Angel is one of my favorite paintings to see adapted as fanart bc it slaps EVERY TIME but one of the biggest tragedies in my humble opinion is that most of you will never experience the phenomenal sluttery and homoeroticism of the Fallen Angel nude model painting scene in Not Me: The Series.
#Sean. faculty of political science#kinnporsche#bad buddy#not me#till date i have the trailer screebshot of in my phone#because wow#the shift from engineering and architecture and medicine#to political science#and played on gmm by none other than papi like#p nuchy literally did it for all of us#coming generations will look at not me and wonder how tf did they get away with that on gmm of all studios like??

GMM by the numbers: is GMM in danger of getting less gay and more bro-y?
You decide based on a six year trend. (Based off of continued vibes discourse in the Peaceful Property tag)
2019: 2 BL, 15 het romances, 1 bromance
2020: 4 BL (if you count The Shipper and Ohm does), 11 het romances (1 with queer themes), 3 Bromance (TayNew’s first bromance is in this year) 1 thriller
2021: 4 BL, 10 series with main het romance (1 with gay storyline), 1 bromance
2022: 7 BL (if you count both Star and Sky installments as separate), 12 series with a main het romance (3 with queer themes), 1 action comedy
2023: 9 BL (if you count Our Skyy 2), 6 het romances, 2 bromances
2024: 9 BL, 2 GL, 5 Het romances, 2 Bromances (2 bl, 1 gl, 2 het still filming)

okay apparently watcher released an apology so here's my thoughts (not asked for):
it was decent, as far as youtube apologies go. I don't understand why people are now saying that people overreacted when we probably wouldn't have gotten an apology if no one said anything? like being critical of things is okay, you know? and in this case it led to the right outcome.
I also don't think it's wrong that people started criticizing the content at watcher. especially after being told they had to pay for it, like you're gonna become more critical of things when you're being asked to pay money for it instead of it being free. and when the product is becoming more expensive to produce but it ends up being less entertaining, that is not a good thing (*cough* ghost files)
watcher 100% needs someone to budget their money, idk who is in charge of it now, but they really don't seem to be doing a good job. production is expensive, but you cannoooot be making projects as if you have a disney/warner brothers type budget when you're an indie studio. even with the streaming service money, this will still be an issue. they're trying to grow their company way too fast, and it will lead to them going under completely if they're not careful. you can't rely on the fans to bail you out when you make bad choices.
also, they need other on-screen talent. like the try guys have been struggling for awhile now, but at least they were smart enough to get people like kwesi and johnny to be new cast members. ryan and shane are 1000% burnt out, they need other talent. I remember they had a show with one of the staff members(?) but it only lasted 3 episodes and then they just stopped it. obv it didn't get as many views, but you need to build an audience and that takes more than 3 episodes to do. if they want to actually produce more content (which would help make more money and make their huge staff actually make sense) they need new people to be on screen. look at dropout/GMM/smosh. bigger casts, way more output. putting steven and andrew as hosts is actually a good choice i think, but sadly they're choosing to have them host one of the most expensive shows to produce. when you're making food content, why are you starting with the pricey international restaurants? start at del taco or something. build a bigger audience to justify the costs. look at eat the menu; the first episode was literally taco bell, and five years later, NOW they're doing fine dining. because they can put more money into it, because they KNOW it's one of their more profitable shows.
idk. acting like there still isn't problems is so strange to me. they apologized, that's a good thing, but it doesn't solve all the issues that have been brought to the forefront as a result of this whole debacle.
#i also recommend cr1tikals video on the subject because he is brutally honest about how much money youtube channels make#i don't completely buy the 'youtube is not giving us enough money woe is me' act#esp w/ patreon and merch and live show profits#idk. remain critical of internet personalities i guess#watcher

I mean... "Watcher is a production studio that is focused on creating television-caliber, unscripted series in the digital space". A streaming service as the end goal always made sense to me - knowing full well if it happened I might not be able to pay for it.
I mean GMM has been around for over a decade but they're also a show within a production company that belongs to Mythical Entertainment. They have mythical society (which is paid), mythical kitchen, a cookbook, a cereal brand, sporked, they bought Smosh, they have annual ticketed events, they go on tour, etc. And they've chosen to remain on YouTube but because they're backed by so many other stuff.
I've seen so many people say they don't want quality content, they just want Ryan and Shane sitting in folding chairs in the dark. Well then go back to watching Unsolved. They wanna grow up in their careers and why shouldn't they get to? They left buzzfeed for a reason. If you can't see that for what it is then their content it's for you, Watcher is not for you. If you can't be happy "your favorite content creator" wants a better career for himself then just leave them alone.
Many followed Shane and Ryan to Watcher to only keep watching them, completely ignoring the fact that they have a production studio. The idea has always been to keep adding new talent. To hire other hosts. They even had to explicitly say that in yesterday's video as if it wasn't obvious already.
Guys, Shane and Ryan (and Steven) are not YouTubers. They're not David Dobrik or Cody Ko. They're creators, writers, directors, executive producers, editors (etc) of their own series on their own production company.
Now does that mean they're exempt from making financial mistakes? No, they're not. This is their first time running a company. Mistakes are always gonna be made and maybe they could've handled the news better but your response as "fans" could've been A LOT better too.
#i know they're just people on a screen but they're people on a screen that have brought me laughter for many years#i needed to get this off my chest#steven lim#ryan bergara#shane madej#watcher

So that's a wrap on Wandee Goodday... honestly, a good show, with a good and solid pair of leads with chemistry in spades which proves to be the saving grace for another GMM show.
I actually thought the show had a great start (episode one excluded) with an engaging script, and all characters seemed interesting in their own right. But unfortunately something happened halfway-through that made many plot points become moot or simply cease to exist, for exemple Dee and Ter's rivalry was electric in the first couple of episodes, with that loaded baggage between them ー the moment where Dee finally steps up and Ter makes moves on him to sway his resolve was super interesting, because Dee notices and states how Ter could be manipulative, painting him as a very dangerous rival ー but that got dropped, and Ter became genuinely interest in Dee which led to the most uninteresting love rivalry between Ter and Yak.
In a way, one of theirs strongest assets didn't always play out in their favor: At one point it became simply too ridiculous to not have Dee and Yak as boyfriends, specially with the way Sarin and Sapol played them, there wasn't any room for question when it came down to their feelings ー the script needed to constantly remind us that they were not dating.
I do wonder how much of a studio interference that was, because GMM does have a tendency to pull on writers leashes when stories stray too far from their bread and butter.
There were other fumbles: Taem whole arc was weird, suddenly realizing she had feelings for Yak when not one episode prior she was supporting his relationship with Dee. They pretty much vanished with Drake's Kao , who started out with a very unique quest for love as an assexual person, only to be reduced to Yak and Dee's sexual counselor (he provided them with sexy costumes pretty much) and a speedrun romance at the very end.
One of the best parts of the show wasn't bulletproof either: Thor and Fluke's hot-n-sweet couple Yei and Cher could've easily got a 'epilogue' episode telling how they got together, there is a whole novel of them by the way, they briefly mention some of the events but it would be nice to see it and considering that were at least two fillers episodes it wouldn't be too hard to have at least one focused entirely on them. They also teased a potential Yei story around his debt and gambling addiction, only for it to be resolved in 5 minutes in a brief fist-cuff with Yak. All that said, it was truly impressive how Thor and Fluke have that thing where we get uncomfortable watching them together, like we are actually invading their privacy, which is great.
Also, they got the first on-screen gay marriage from Thailand, so I can't do anything but love them.
Yak and Dee as well seemed to be watered down compared to what they were initially presented. When they argue why they won't commit to each other we get brief glimpses of what was their initial pitches: Dee went through some bad experience that made him averse to relationships, whereas Yak fears that his sexuality will cause problems in the competitive fighting world. Two stories way more interesting than what we got, and worse is that both plots were simply brushed aside for the "fake-boyfriends" approach.
The one story that wasn't altered and remained solid from start to finish was the complicated relationship of the Phadetseuk family, hands down the most complex in the show and the fact that Yei and Yak's sexuality wasn't an issue, but his father still had issues with them was great.
I know they were on a brutal schedule, there are reports of filming happening for the same week's episode, which more often than not reduces quality and demands script adjustments. I might be coming off too critical, it just that there was so much potential left out.
But what we got was good, could've been great, but it was good.
#wandee goodday#unsolicited opinions#long post#bl review#was it bad? not at all#it just that it could've been great#i don't know who to blame specifically#so i'll blame gmm
